I've seen people use these for cleaning window blinds. They cut up soft cloth and used rubber bands at the bottom to keep them on. I think it was the microfiber cloth that was used.
could be the drain. Its a "u" curve, a trap for water to keep the septic smell out. It may need a dose of chlorine bleach once in awhile to kill any bacteria brewing
