How about a patchwork denim quilt? They are durable and great for outdoor use at the park, beach, etc. Use the parts of jeans that are still in good shape and toss worn knees and such. You will need a backing of cotton duck, canvas or twill, though you only need to use batting if you want more cushioning. You can do a square patch, rectangles, or a traditional patchwork design.

If you have a lot of it. Cut squares and sew them together to make a quilt. Using flannel for the backing and you'll have the warmest quilt in history! It will last for 100+years!
