Contact paper.
There are endless possibilities. You could cover them with wrapping paper, or fabric, or even wrap them with twine, clothesline, or rope.
I just covered a few small boxes with a single roll of contact paper I purchased at Home Depot four about $4.00 including tax.

They make some really pretty contact paper now, Judy.
