I cannot finish my question. When I take out the drawers and put the file cabinet on its back I see that there was no bottom on the cabinet. How do I add a piece of metal to the "open" end of the raised bed??

    Won't they rust out?

You paint them with several coats of paint. My other raised beds made of wood rot away and concrete.blocks take up too much space in my small lot.. Nothing is perfect.

I would take the drawers out and use them individually and then turn the cabinet on it's back and use that too. Just drill drainage holes in the bottom, fill with soil, and plant away. They would last for quite a while.

When I turn it onto its back the old top becomes one end, but there is no OTHER END because the file cabinet did not have a "floor" or bottom. A box with one end missing will not hold dirt!!
