What a coincidence! I am working on one right now that I am making into a lap desk. Not for a laptop, but for crafts, writing, etc. I tore all of the old felt out and am trying to think of how to divide up the storage space inside. For the top,I'd like to make a leather writing surface, maybe stamp it with some gold leaf in a vintage look. I'd like to attach a handle that'd let me carry it like a small suitcase, but the storage has to be able to take the tilt without spilling, haha!

Great ideas above! I, too, happen to have just bought a second silverware box and will figure out what to do with it soon. I did transform one last year, though. Here it is...

Here are photos of three silverware boxes that I have repainted. I use them for jewellery, TV remote controls, doggie bags (clean ones - that is). They are just so handy to have around and can be decorated in so many ways.

Wow! Never ever thought to reuse them, so nice, especially since solid wood... great ideas all!
