With all the open space homes out there, I have a friend who simply put a door on an angle and put a little separation between her LR and dining room. It is just enough to make it more cozy.
awesome that you have something from a relative that you cared for...to remember her by each and every day...as you see it in your home. I don't know what your Decor looks like in your house, but I would use it as artwork in one of your rooms... where it would be suitable. You can simply put it askew and off center, behind a display table... Leaning up against a wall. If it wasn't distressed enough already, I would want to rough it up a bit...hitting the edges and/or raised portions of it, with sandpaper, before finding the perfect place to lean it up against a wall in my house. Using it still to lean against the wall, you can attach pretty decorative metal hooks of some sort (or brackets) to it and attach little potted plants all over it or even make the entire door itself a stenciled sign... then hang it on the wall as truly beautiful artwork... that could have words that your grandma often said or even a quote that defined her as a person, beautifully stenciled on it. If you want to keep it in its most natural state and not change the paint....simply do that and still do the Lean up idea. If you want to change the paint, then you can go to town and also use it in any other room in your house.. for the same purpose, just stated or attach it to the wall behind your becomes a headboard or if attached shelves to it...it can become the backing of a bookcase.
