It is a very easy job to do. First thing is to take out the two screws by the door handle. Once they are out both door handles should pull out. Next take out the two screws on th side of the door that latch into the frame and pull the mechanism out. Now install your new door handle set.
You will need a screwdriver, #2 Phillips or a flat head, depending on the age of the hardware. There are two screws on the skinny side of the door (edge) remove those and the plate should come off. On the inside of the door, there are two screws holding the plate if it’s round, four if it’s rectanglular, remove those. If it’s real old, there’s a small set screw that holds the handle on the bar that joins the two handles, loosen it, some newer brands, the handle screws off and may have the set screw. Measure the hole opening precisely, as well as the thickness of the doors. You want to replace with hardware that will work on the thickness as well as to be adjustable for the throw. Try to get one that requires the same size hole so you don’t have to do any cutting.
