How can I cover my windows to block the afternoon sun out?
The back of my house faces the West and the afternoon sun is horrible, I've thought about exterior blinds or wooden shutters do you have any good suggestions to close the afternoon sun out? I have appx 108x60 inches on one area and 56x60 on the other window. Thank you in advance.

Hi Linda, you might consider purchasing drop cloths in a size larger than you need. You could create a rod for those using various types of products, aluminum conduit, PVC pipe, wooden dowels, and make grommets across the top of the material so you could slide the "curtain" across to create shade or block the sun when needed. The canvas type drop cloths are fairly heavy duty and could be laundered, or taken down in the winter when not needed. Just a thought and likely less permanent and less expensive than blinds or shutters.
Have you considered outdoor awnings? You could also install plantation shutters indoors for easy access to open and close them as the sun comes and goes. Plantation shutters will block out most of the sun to give you some relief.
My living room windows face due west. I used a dual rod with sheers and lined drapes.
