How to securely nail curtain rod brackets to the wall?

The plywood walls are not strong enough to hold the nails that come with curtain rod brackets. The rod loosened and all came down after only 4 months installation of a double rod bracket

Make sure you are using the anchors that come with the curtain rods. If you install the anchors correctly, they should hold the rod up without a problem. I've put rods up without the anchors an the curtain rods always end up coming out.

Hi Gil, you really need to screw them into a stud or use weight rating appropriate toggle bolts. A double rod can be pretty heavy.

Pics are of my sunroom that used to be a covered deck. I choose to use heavy duty bike anchors and go into the ceiling. You could certainly do this and just do 2 separate rods so the weight won’t pull it down. But definitely use something other than nails!

As far as your noisy stairs, yes, you can fix the noises. The squeaking is coming from wood moving/sliding against wood. Pull back your carpet and remove staples. Then remove stair tread. Make sure your riser is not cracked and intact. The attach your tread back using liquid nails and appropriate sized deck screws. Let dry before putting carpet back. That should fix you right up.
