I thrifted this chest of drawers from my local Goodwill.

Fun fact a couple days later I went back to the same thrift store and also found the matching dresser!

This is a Bassett vintage piece that has lasted over 50 years with great bones but that faux wood finish needed a makeover!

I removed the hardware so I could clean the piece thoroughly. I liked the vintage hardware already on this piece so the only thing I’m going to do is give it a paint job.

I am using chalk paint so I am going to scuff sand the piece and get right into painting. Scuff sanding is using 120 grit or comparable to scuff the piece and give it some tooth for the paint to stick to.

Picking the color is one of the hardest things about painting!

I choose this orange flambé by Behr in their chalk paint.

The first coat always looks absolutely terrible. Just trust the process.

I use a fine grit foam sanding pad to sand the finish between coats to keep it smooth as possible. It dries fairly quickly and this took about three coats of paint.

I sprayed the hardware Rustoleum metallic gold and put her back together.

Orange you glad I painted it?
