Any idea what this metal base is from?

How big is it? It looks like a vanity mirror stand.

It's about 7 inches high. Could be a vanity mirror. It looks masculine.

The more important question is "what are you using it for?"

Lol, today I'm using it as a pedestal display piece. I added a wood circle with metal edging. There's the link http://homastyle.com/wp/2012/07/24/cloche-and-base/ Tomorrow who knows???

Thank you. It is very pretty here. Right on the ocean and compared to the rest of the country it is a beautiful sunny day with a high of 65 today.

@ Carroll A, we spent 5 awesome years in Pismo Beach, CA. I miss the 65 degree days and the marine layer!

see if there is a signature anywhere on it, it could be a lamp base.

I just looked and there is not a signature in sight. A lamp base is a good idea. The wiring would have to come from the top because the base has no openings or holes for wires.

If it is weighted, perhaps it was for holding an umbrella over the top of your table on the patio. I have seen similar for sale to hold these, usually the base is round, however.

Could have held a shallow "pan/bowl" for a cigarette ashtray.

Looks like the base to a lamp to me. Some of the old lamps had metal bases and then the cord came right from the bulb socked. I have a 1915 record player lamp that is that way.

I am thinking it is the base of an old Smoking Stand. My parents had one when I was a child. They can be quite ornate looking.
