Ideas for dining room table top

I have the base & want a 7ft long table, maybe wood, zinc or some other. Please give us some ideas for a DIY project. Thank you very much.

Have you checked with local craftsman, or are you wanting this to be DIY?

We have built a couple of dining table with old wood for the top. We used dark walnut on the top and antique white on the base and legs and then distressed them a little. The first one we build from scratch and sold. The second one we got the table and chairs for $20 at a yard sale and totally refinished it. We loved it so much we kept it.

I used regular 4 by 8 sheet of 3/4 inch plywood, with hardly any knots. Cut down to 6 ft, then used 1 by4 furring strips around the edges just a fraction above the top. I plan on filling in the the imperfections & painting it. Then as a final top, using that "liquid glass" mixture as the top. No pics- still working on it.

Make a farmhouse table. We found a gorgeous base to use and my husband is building a wood top. You can find tons of hints on Pinterest on exactly how to build the top using an existing base. Good luck!
