Marion Nesbitt on Nov 11, 2015I like curtains/draperies to the floor. What I would do is hang the rods so they all appear the same width. A valence hung from just below the ceiling and down to cover the window frame would also make the windows look longer. I'd go with a stripe or print that has both your colours and possibly one more colour. You can always add tie backs, tassles, etc. Gold and green look great together.Helpful Reply

Lucy Nunn on Nov 11, 2015For a minimalist look, you can use inset roman shades, or even cloth covered roller shades. You can have them made (about $100 and up per window depending on how small small is) or you can cover custom cut roller shades from Lowes, for very little money.Helpful Reply

Linda Johnson on Nov 11, 2015We put up mini blinds and put up a wood valance over the top. You can make a valence out of 1" x 6" boards. We painted them white & used white mini blinds.Helpful Reply

Sheryl Shelton on Nov 11, 2015Depending on the window size and the type of look you are wanting, Lowe's, Home Depot etc. sale window treatments that you use water and a squeegee to hang. All you do is put it up then use a painter's edge, yard stick or anything that will allow you to cut along outside edges to remove excess treatment. These stick up window treatments come in a variety of designs, from the etched glass look to stained glass and in between. I have used them on multiple occasions and they really look very nice when done right and completed. I did them on my front door that was a double heavy duty 7' top to bottom glass and it turned out very nice. Anyway, Good Luck!Helpful Reply

Johnchip on Nov 12, 2015Wood slat blinds can be ordered online, custom sized to fit any window. There is a fake wood one, that is just as good and looks real. Both type are very inexpensive. Almost any wood color length and width.Helpful Reply

Alicia Milton on Nov 12, 2015I know the feeling. I have three windows 45" wide x 21". They have faux wood mini blinds but they left me wanting. But landed with a happy compromise when i found two thread-bare twin sized cotton beadspreads, that had tiny polkadots and fringed sides. Brought them home...cut them in two --lengthwise. Hung them in the window box by folding the long end over a tension rod and let the fringed ends flow down the sides of the window. And it was still too plain! So i scoured my plates, bought a few more and ended up with a sweet valance. Hope this sparks some ideas for u. Good luck!Helpful Reply

Pat on Nov 12, 2015If the windows are together, make one curtain. Will th curtains stay open or closed. It really depends on what you want. You hang them 5 inches above window and 5 inches out from windonHelpful Reply

JoAnn on Nov 13, 2015If you are a non sewer like me, they have several ways to iron on the seams you need. That being said I would go with a colorful print with oranges, yellows, green, blues. Since the Windows are small I would go with smaller print. Would give a great pop of colors.Helpful Reply

Marsha Groce on Nov 13, 2015Here you go girls! I am making my curtains just from the size of the window trim. 30x72. If you don't sew get some iron on hem tape. I am just using some long curtains that match the valance and like you I do not want the long heavy look anymore. This is an idea I got from a friend years ago: get two pieces of material and either turn the material inside facing each other or if you are using iron on tape fold in 1/2 inch and iron your two pieces together facing outward. Leave an open pocket on the side to put in a long strip of thin wood and tack it down to the top of the window facing. Yes, that is what I said. Before you do that if you want ribbons to roll it up on you put those on as well under and over the flat curtain and let them hang down. I made mine out of compliment material. You can use a long dowel to roll them or a long tube, like wrapping paper comes on inside the bottom but I do not use anything at all. Roll it up to the height you want and tie it where you want it and there you have it! An instant roll up shade. Let it up and down and one more thing I am putting mine over the mini blinds, in the winter the sun really comes through the window. Good luck! Find 2 cute looks of material. If you want a valance make it longer about 12 inches and let it hang down over the top of the wooden top.Helpful Reply

Bonnie witlam on Nov 13, 2015U could always go with the "faux" treatment. Choose blinds that match, they can be wider than the windows. Then u can go with what ever length curtain u would like, just make sure that they r closed enough so all u see is the real sill. And to add height, without using blinds, hang u r curtains 6 to 10 inches above the top of the frame. Good luck, just so many options. But what the ladies have suggested about the no sew r great tips!Helpful Reply

Maxine Davidson-Tompkins on Nov 18, 2015I made curtains out of dish towels. If they are on sale, buy two or three & make hems on end or add banding tape to make rod pockets. The tape will make them a little longer. Some times you can find iron on tape in fabric storesHelpful Reply
