As I did not do a step-by-step snapshot of this I'm going to do a walk-thru. Last summer I picked this up from secondhand store for $10 and decided to do something to an otherwise drab stenciled mirror. I would personally recommend starting with a really easy, easy project to get the feel of the whole process.
It had 2 great features; a heavy mirror and wide border. My original plan was geometric, but variables were added in here and there. I first painted the border antique white, then started to lay out a pattern. I had 3/4" translucent terra cotta tiles for larger areas; 1/8" - 1/2" assorted (opaque, transparent, marbled) tiles for smaller areas. The planning process took more time I think than the actual labor. Colors used were terracotta, red wine, midnight blue, aquamarine and pearl white
I worked in sections around the oval and used Weldbond to anchor down the pieces which cures completely in 4-5 days however I was ready to apply unsanded grout in 24 hours. NOTE HERE. Welbond is awesome on a flat surface, but not a vertical surface. Your grouting mix should be the consistency of peanut butter. Let it sit to slake for 10-12 minutes. Wear gloves and get in there with your fingers and work it every which way into your tiles surfaces. When you have complete coverage....take a break and let it rest for 15 minutes. Take your damp sponge w/bucket and start wiping it away, but not completely! Again, let it rest for another 15 minutes. Now do your final sponge and rinse. If you are satisfied with your surface you can now polish it up. This can take some time

VOILA! Now's it's hanging out on my wall! We all have art inside us. You just have to look
