Wanda on Jun 06, 2013I think it is pretty funky! Do you have something like a small buffet table that you could hang it above? I would definitly use it in my home.Helpful Reply

Lita on Jun 06, 2013I would like to use it in my home but i need to make it look better, repaint maybe ? and do something with the center...Helpful Reply

Dria @ Dio on Jun 06, 2013Lita you can get a box of round mirrors at Target for around 25.00 I think there are 6 mirrors in the box all different sizes, one should fit in the middle where your clock is. I actually like it as the wood but you could paint it to go w/your decor!Helpful Reply

-
Lita on Jun 06, 2013I will keep that in mind.THANKS !Helpful Reply

Cyndi on Jun 06, 2013I would paint the whole thing with Krylon looking glass paint http://www.amazon.com/Krylon-K09033000-Looking-Mirror-Like-Aerosol/dp/B003971BAY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370560225&sr=8-1&keywords=krylon+looking+glass+paint then paint the hands shiny jet black (or replace them if possible) and add some nice rub-on numbers... it would be like a shiny star hanging on the wallHelpful Reply

Z on Jun 06, 2013Lita, you can put it in a box and mail it to me. Seriously! I love that clock just as it is. That being said, if you really want a mirror you should carefully remove the hands and then clock mechanism and then head to your local Hobby Lobby (I checked and you do have one) and buy a round craft mirror to fit. They have them on sale quite often or you can go to their web page and get a 40% off coupon. Though they are very reasonably priced every day. http://shop.hobbylobby.com/search/?keyword=craft%20mirror&perpage=12&match=AND&F_Sort=2Helpful Reply

Sandy Lueker on Jun 06, 2013I would paint it white and put a round mirror where the clock is and little mirrors at the end of each point...I would love to find something like this!Helpful Reply

-
Kimberly Noelle on Jun 06, 2013It would be adorable to paint a yellow and create a sun or ice blue and create a star and put it in a child's room for decoration purposes.Helpful Reply

Lita on Jun 07, 2013THANK YOU for all your inputs ...you have given me lots of ideas . I will come up with something to make it more presentable. What kind of pain should use, flat or shiny?Helpful Reply

-
Barbara Sawyer on Jun 07, 2013I would remove the clock's hands and spray paint it a color you would like to pick up in your room or go with a black or bronze, shiny or flat which ever you prefer.Helpful Reply

DTA on Jun 07, 2013Mid Century modern clock - check for them on eBay. I would NOT destroy this clock.Helpful Reply
-
-
Victoria on Jun 07, 2013Much as I like some of these ideas, I agree with DTA. Many folks would pay for this 50's 60's clock just the way it is. It's a classic.Helpful Reply
-
-
Kelly Stacey on Jun 07, 2013I'm in total agreement with Victoria. Spray painting or removing parts isn't a good idea. Check on etsy, people pay hundreds of $$ for a sunburst clock. I'd probably pay that much myself :-)Helpful Reply

-
Steph Mike on Jun 07, 2013If you're going to alter (and it is super cool right now) why not go the ceiling medallion route by removing the clock face? Ceilings need love too....walls get all the attention. ;)Helpful Reply

Jeannine Maranchuk on Jun 07, 2013Depending on your family I would put a picture of your parents/grandparents in the middle, then on the outside points add smaller pictures of the family. Thus making a "family circle" with room to add more as needed.Helpful Reply

David Perona on Jun 07, 2013-Living in Palm Springs CA (arguably the Mid-Century capitol of the U.S.!), I fully appreciate and totally agree with the comments to not destroy this lovely piece by altering it. This is DEFINITELY e-bay marketable. Then you can take the $$ you get and run over to Hobby Lobby or Michaels for all the supplies you would need for a few new crafts.Helpful Reply

April E on Jun 07, 2013this is a clock similar to yours is you do anything to it you ruin its value this 1 is priced at $500 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Mid-Century-Eames-Era-Atomic-SETH-THOMAS-TEAK-SUNBURST-STARBURST-CLOCK-/370804650269?pt=Antiques_Decorative_Arts&hash=item5655adf11dHelpful Reply

Kim Dagenais on Jun 07, 2013I would go with what April has said. The link she provided for you on ebay is the exact same clock. I would sell the clock for big bucks, and then use the money to buy something similar in shape or another item. Wow you could buy so many things after the sale of your clock. Retro is in big time.Helpful Reply

-
Jocelyne marchand on Jun 07, 2013it is classic design . . you should keep it as is . . . .Helpful Reply

-
Z on Jun 07, 2013Thank you @Aprilfor finding that. When I saw @Lita had asked what kind of paint to use, I was ready to search when I saw your link. PLEASE Lita, rethink what you'll do. Sell it and buy some items to make a similar mirror or leave it as it. You have something of value there.Helpful Reply

Kay Smith on Jun 07, 2013Remove the clock, paint each section a different hue, use as a door or wall wreath, or lay flat on a table as a centerpiece or stick a large candle in the middle. Even a plant in the center or silk flowers or ceramic cherub would work!Helpful Reply

-
Larose LoganOakes on Jun 07, 2013I agree with the others who said not to change this clock and just sell it and go buy yourself something nice. But if I did want to do something with it, I see a very cool chandelier in the making.Think how great the light would look shining through the rays. The area where the clock is currently at would be facing the floor.I'm not quite sure how to do the actual lighting part of it but I would check with a lighting company and see what I could come up with. But of course that is only if you choose not to sell it.Let us know what you decide to do.:)Helpful Reply

D Burton on Jun 07, 2013Throw it away! I had one in the seventies and that is what I did with mineHelpful Reply

Sherrie on Jun 08, 2013Ballard designs is one of my favorite places. They have something similar to your clock! http://www.ballarddesigns.com/suzanne-kasler-sunburst-mirror-234/wall-decor/suzanne-kasler/15125?defattrib=&defattribvalue=&listIndex=5 What's so funny is I see so many people that re duplicate this.Helpful Reply

Kelley Storey on Jun 08, 2013The ceiling medallion is a great idea and maybe you could make a nice chandelier out of it too! But seriously I love that clock too! I think just painting it to suit your decorating theme would be awesome!Helpful Reply

117135 on Jun 08, 2013I love the mirror idea! Paint the metal parts with a silver color and I would paint the inside spikes to be one color and then select a coordinating color to paint the outside spikes. You can really make a fun statement with this piece. I love it!Helpful Reply

-
Kay Love-Wood on Jun 08, 2013If you were a garden addict, I would remove the face. Paint a sun face and turn it into a happy sunny face for outside ..Helpful Reply
-
-
Sue Weiker on Jun 08, 2013If you really want to use it and not sell it, I like the sunny face idea for the garden, or to mount on the garage, or shed idea, or ceiling medallion idea as well. For outdoors, I'd like either very bright colors or metals though personally. You could do some bronze and silver metals paint, or something like that. Very prettyHelpful Reply

Z on Jun 08, 2013I'm so proud of you Lita! You avoided following the trend of "just paint it"! Bravo. @Douglas Hunt will be relieved as am I. (I knew you'd want to see this Douglas, as it's such a charming piece from the mid century.)Helpful Reply

Andrea on Jun 08, 2013OMG! WE had a clock similar to that when I was growing up - early 60s and I'm not sure how long before that!! We usually store interesting items or they go to another member of the family, however, NO ONE remembers where this clock is! Ours was all "gold" and had more "rays". I have been searching for one off and on for 3 years! Get the clock fixed! Just saw your post! Thank you! Not everything needs to be changed! If you ever find another one OR decide to get rid of this one.... PLEASE, PLEASE let me know!!!Helpful Reply

Lora (Howard) Cotton on Jun 08, 2013If the clock is no longer working, then take the clock mechanism out and spray paint the whole thing with silver or gold spray paint and dust liberally with glitter and use as a Christmas star. (Given you celebrate Christmas of course.)Helpful Reply

Anna Ibarra on Jun 08, 2013This is a beauty, find out more of it, it's even of any value, but if you don't like it as is, cause it doesn't go with ur decor, then paint it a high gloss color or metallic and change the clock to either a mirror or find an ornate piece to attach to the middle. It's gorgeous, I wouldn't sell or give it away. It's a keeper is what I'd do with it.Helpful Reply

Mary on Jun 19, 2013Well, I think it is great just the way it is but if you wanted to you could always rely on the good ol' fall back of painting it any color to fit a décor... or use Chrome paint and that would really update it. You could put craft beads on tips of stars or numbers on them. Maybe 12,3,6,9.. Take the clockworks out and insert a fav picture... you can hang this anywhere! Kitchen, Bathroom, Porch, Garden Post!! It is a cool item... sun bursts are so popular...this one was probably the inspiration!!Helpful Reply
-
-
Francine C on Jun 21, 2013I too love it as is, however , if you want try painting it and making it into a sundial. The "sunbursts" would really make it stand out!Helpful Reply

Sandy Harmon on Jun 23, 2013Sell it on eBay! It's retro mid century modern atomic era. Do a search - some are selling for over $100. The wood looks like walnut.Helpful Reply
