Donna Clarke Curnutte on May 01, 2016Run hot or pour boiling water down the drain. Then pour about 1 cup baking soda in the drain. Let that sit about 15 min then pour 1 or 2 cps white vinegar in the drain, it should fizzle so dont worry. Let that sit about 30 min and run hot water down the drain again. Works for me every time!Helpful Reply

Phil a on May 01, 2016As a handyman, I often have to unclog drains, usually in the bathroom. Hair and soap often bind together to make a paste that really slows the water flow. I've often pulled out hair plugs that look like a dead mouse. If you can remove the pop-up stopper, it's much easier to clean. If not, Home Depot sells a little plastic tool called a Zip-It that is a thin "stick" with small barbs on it. It costs about $3.00 or less. You can reach down int the drain and pull out the plugs. I tell my customers that hot water is their best friend in keeping their drains flowing freely. As Donna mentioned, boiling water is a good solution to dissolve the soap. But until you remove the hair, and you'd be surprised how much hair gets into the sink even for those people that don't wash their hair in the sink, you'll keep having a problem. To prevent this issue, buy a drain screen for each of the sinks and tubs. You'd be amazed how much hair it will catch.Helpful Reply

Kathy Bitzan on May 01, 2016That is how I clean my drain is by removing the stopper if I can't get it out I can sometimes use my tweezer to get the hair to start coming up, then when that is done I use the baking soda and vinegar trick with boiling water because otherwise I wait along time for the tap to get hot enough. I will be checking for a Zip It for sure.Helpful Reply

MN Mom on May 01, 2016I agree with the recommendations of running the boiling or hot water followed by baking soda and vinegar. The little Zip -It strip from the hardware store is great too as until you remove the source of hair that's most likely catching the soap gunk, you're just masking the issue.Helpful Reply
