I bought a Shasta daisy at Walmart,,I couldn't pull them apart !

Question

I want to seperate then for the garden, would it be ok to cut the roots to seperate them, they
are not looking good packed together like they are. I can't pull them apart- so cut or not to cut ?

You will probably lose some of them when you cut but I would cut. As they grow tall, though, they will require support if not supported by each other.

IT filled the small pot & was wrapping around, Binding itself up !

Pull what you can apart, then cut the roots that wouldn't separate. Will not hurt them if you are gentle about it -)

Thanks, I should have checked them better, it's been raining every day but i'll get out as soon as I can, next year I'll buy seeds ! Thanks again .

I'm with Better Outdoor Living, I use a sharp, clean butcher knife or cleaver to divide some of my plants. Just water well when you transplant, they'll come out shock much easier.

Make sure you untangle the roots as much as possible.

I use my husband's small handsaw... works great! I find shastas are pretty hardy...
