How do I get ideas for a major remodel?
-
Cindy Hagemann on Sep 15, 2016Look at Houzz.com, Pinterest for ideas. If you home is on a concrete slab, it will be difficult and more expensive to move plumbing. Maybe you can knock out walls instead of moving the rooms? You can also post photos here of the different rooms and ask for ideas - but be prepared to get everyone's opinion!Helpful Reply

William on Sep 15, 2016Look at magazines. A lot of online resources. Most of the major magazines have online presence. You can go back thru years of ideas. The DIY TV shows are also online. Do a google search for a specific room and you will get a lot of results.Helpful Reply

Cheryl Maul Darr on Sep 16, 2016Pinterest is a great place to start as is HGTV. They have several remodel shows that are fabulous. Careful though, they're addictive!Helpful Reply

Johnchip on Sep 16, 2016Have you spoken to any contractors yet/ Some have full service planning in particular if your area has homes of your vintage undergoing similar projects. They may have some good ideas as to what work well in your area, will consider site lines, elevations, supply lines, etc. As far as decor, that is so individual, you will want to make those choices down the road after you work out the construction issues.Helpful Reply

Judi Hibbitts Wagner on Sep 16, 2016When we are doing remodeling, I Google the project ie: bathroom remodeling or whatever room you are doing. This can give you not only the DIY and HGTV ideas but things others suggest. It's helped us.Helpful Reply

Glenda on Sep 16, 2016I guess this is unconventional, but I knew what colors and metal (copper) I wanted to use. To save money, I didn't move the plumbing. I ended up NOT having the conventional wok triangle, but I love my kitchen. I sketched what I wanted and talked to the contractor. I already knew a cabinet guy so everything fell into place. I had to measure all appliances. Do it how you want it!Helpful Reply

Susan on Sep 16, 2016For a remodel of this scope, consider hiring a designer who has good connections with local construction trades and suppliers. It will save you a TON of money in the long run by making sure things are done the RIGHT way and that your remodel will come in on time and on budget.Helpful Reply

Barbara on Sep 17, 2016As an Interior Designer, I tell clients to look through magazines for ideas and styles they like. The colors they want to see in their homes every day, then get REFERALS for a good contractor. Set a budget and stick to it. NEVERTHELESS pay anyone all up front, give them funds to start, then more when they are 3/4 of the way through and the final payment when done and you are satisfied with the work.Helpful Reply
