Does anyone know what this plant is?
It was my grandfather's favorite flower. We have handed it down through generations. We call it the purple flower plant.
Yep it is a Confederate Rose. I have a couple since I am in Georgia. To keep the bush from becoming to leggy every winter cut it to the ground, (I cut mine any time it becomes leggy) in the winter I cut it about 3-4 inches from the ground winter is Jan - Feb. during the rest of the year I trim when the leaves fall off around the bottom, just the ones that are losing the leaves. I have seen very leggy ones that are over 7 ft tall but over half of the height is leggy. I through some granular time release fert at it once a week or so.
