Suggestions for a very deep alcove

Question

I am doing some remodeling and can't decide what to do with this area. I want a low cost option. Preferably diy. Please help

A few facts
-My TV must go here 
- My furniture will be arranged around this as the focus
- My style is ' transitional/modernish with touches of farmhouse rustic'

Beautiful place for a built in book case.  Just be sure you strategically place outlets for lights, tv, charging etc!

If it were my space, I'd make it multi purpose and hide the TV by building sliding doors up top (you would have to raise the tv connection in the wall). You could also have some storage space in that area. With the sliding door, you won't have to stare at the TV when it's not on.

Then below that, I'd build a desk area between the two walls with a door as the desk top. You could clad the door with some reclaimed wood for that rustic look. I'd use a lucite chair for seating so you could still look through it and see the rustic wood of the desk.  I attached a rendering to give you an idea (however, I couldn't draw in the sliding doors).

it took me a couple months but I found an older solid wood with glass doors entertainment center.  The two sides fit perfectly together and now I have pictures in a closed cabinet on top and the photo albums and albums collected through several generations to listen to behind the bottom closed doors.  NO DUSTING.

Put a bookcase-styled closed storage unit on the bottom, mount the tv on the wall and have a set of doors that cover it when not in use, which swing out and then disappear on each side of the tv. Sytorage is ALWAYS a bonus!  If you have room in the underneath storage, put dvds and device paraphrenalia in there. Drawers are better than shelves in the bottom.

How about a multipurpose area that has:
1) a computer desk and chair at the bottom, and shelves for books at the top; or 
2) a reading nook with padded love seat across the bottom, shelves at the top, and reading lights on the side walks?

If you are keeping your tv there .....I could see one of those great electric fireplaces under it ..there is a outlet  there so it would be a perfect set up ..you could add some small inexpensive shelves and simple bookends to the sides if you need to house a movie collection ...if not maybe just a few  nice mini posters from  your favorite movies  : )

I agree with a fireplace but I would also add pallet wood on back wall. The tv could hang on the wall.  I would keep it simple.

There are so many wallcovering options out there; maybe a faux brick or barnboard. It will add dimension and 'eye candy' to the room.

Keep it simple. I agree with Kim, get one of the electric fireplaces ($2-300) and put tv on it. I have that and it is perfect in any room.  Paint wall a deeper shade of the color of room, as tv screen is black and you want it to all recede.

I understand the idea of tv above fireplace but have always had the problem do I watch tv or look at the fireplace.  If the tv is to be mounted on the wall storage could be with floating shelves above and a cabinet below.  If the tv is to be on a cabinet, place shelves above and along the sides.  I would paint that area one or two shades lighter or darker than the rest of the space. It is an architectural feature and I would make it stand out, though not glaringly so.

We have a very similar one only with a slight arch at the top.  I believe ours was meant for a large TV/entertainment set up so that is what we did.  We searched until we found the TV console that was almost the exact width and it looks great.  I considered having a built-in custom made and then started thinking about how much that would cost (maybe $1500-$2000) so decided a $500 console was much better.

I agree with B J Alexis and Marilyn. You will need someplace to store all you TV accessories. Whether in a cabinet/dresser or open shelving. A fireplace is not keeping it simple.

You could also make a cute reading nook.Use a  tall book shelf on one side a great ajustable lamp & a comfy chair.

Definitely an adjustable tv mount on the wall. Floating shelves on the side walls, maybe with those painted an accent color. 
If tv on console, a beautiful piece tall enough to maybe use a folding saloon door above to shield tv when not in use but still see beautiful furniture tv is on.

I'm suggesting a buffet. Folks my age generally have them. Since we're downsizing  or the alternative, you can find these at a huge bargain at yard sales, flea markets or thrift stores. Cabinets for booze or vases. Drawers for stuff, and since they're real wood, won't fall apart if you cut holes in back for the wiring. ,mine is obviously too formal for you, but if you like the form, sand and paint. There are a hundred different styles and woods, so there's one out there for you.  They are 36'-48' tall and at least 24' deep, enough to hold tv and a great basket of something.  You should be able to find one to fill your space. I'd put a fun, wide print or painting over tv to help show off the great ceiling  height and diminish the impact of the tv.  A large version of the painting to the right of your space

I agree with storage of some kind. A period buffet is a good idea. If you add a mirror (instead of the TV or accessories) & sconces, etc. it will be a focal point. Otherwise, a comfy chair & floor lamp with a picture could make a little cozy reading nook. Depends upon your other furniture arrangement...

In my small house it would probably house my computer desk and computer and morph into a small office.  Or a place to set up my sewing machine and supplies.  You could easily hide any mess with a nice pair of drapes.

My idea is use pallet wood to cover the back of the nook. Then hang a tv swing arm bracket to hold the tv on the wall. Add a rustic style table below the tv for any equipment/accessories etc. Check auctions for cheapest tables. Good Luck!

I literally got this hutch for free the other day.  I can't wait to clean it and sand and either paint it, or possibly just use some contact paper on the sides of it.  For some reason the sides are really worn.  Something like this would work well in that space and there is room on top for a very large flat screen TV as well.  The shelving is not in this hutch but that is not a big problem.  Those can be made to fit.  :)

I am not sure exactly how this would work, but perhaps hang your TV on the wall with a swing bracket, put a couple of shelves underneath for things like Blu Ray or Xboxes, etc. Then hang pocket door with a nice  floor to ceiling painting to hide it all when you have guests and do not want the television to be a focus. I was thinking a barn door would really be cool. I just do not know how to logistically work that out .
