If you don't like them, sell them. If you love them, use them and wash by hand!
I would find out from a reputable dealer if they are with anything before you make a decision.
You can make a gallery wall out of them like this Hometalker: http://www.hometalk.com/diy/craft/decorative-plates/creating-an-eclectic-wall-plate-arrangement-1052862
You can even make your own hangers: http://www.hometalk.com/diy/craft/decorative-plates/diy-plate-hangers-for-cheap-13508170

First off, gold is gold..valuable..and 22 crts yet...bravo....I would pack them up with the proper plate protectors, I believe they are made of soft cushioned paper..organized..ie. large plates, smaller plates, bowls, etc..in Winners today I noticed cream coloured gold plated dishes are making a comeback, imported from Spain..and costing...these would make an absolutely enviable wedding gift to a young couple who appreciate value... when I was a girl, many years ago, there was no such thing as receiving a whole set of dishes for any occasion - what one did give and at some expense was a complete place setting...then on each occasion going forward, usually 8, 10, or 12 such parties, another place setting would be lovingly wrapped and given... joy for the giver and the recipient no matter what the cultural background may be cannot be measured...and often the recipient will recall to others..." I was given this at my wedding shower" or I was given this at my wedding, or upon the purchasing of our home, etc, etc...I know this is rather wordy, but dishes since the beginning of time have great meaning...I mean we are still digging them up today and measuring the wealth and intellect of the peoples in the area of "the dig"....they sit in museums even.....the heartfelt but often unsaid wish when giving of a gift such as beautiful dishes are wishes of abundance, prosperity, and family...a table beautifully set with only the most basic foods will feel like a festive occasion often due to the beautiful "presentation" ... crystal wine glasses also fall into this category....as does great art, versus a print..anyway please let us all know what you think of this idea..perhaps viewing these as a positive rather than a negative.....are we servants to our dishwasher and our busy lives, I think not..I hope not...Thank you for allowing me the pleasure of sharing my thoughts with you....Roz
I'm with you, Linda. I have my Grandmothers beautiful "Red Phoenix" dinnerware, full-service for 16, that my Dad brought back from Japan for her about 60 years ago. They're definitely going to be handed down to my daughter when I leave this mortal earth. Until then, they're used and handwashed with loving care.
It was a joy to pass on my thoughts, and thank you for the depth of your heart for comprehending...you made my day as well...at moments like this, it truly hits home..we are all connected in both weird and wonderful ways...your grand daughter is a lucky gal.....just as an aside..if it were me, I would be tempted to print our conversation from beginning to end..and just tuck it away...as time flies, and it does...it would be wonderful for her to have your precious words...as well as the gift of the dishes, when she no longer has you...you know what I mean..I am over 80, feel like I will go on forever, but of course, we don't .... but in many ways, we can with a bit of thought...
My mom's 'china closet dishes' were gold-rimmed and never in 67 years did they ever see a dishwasher. Brought out for Sundays and special occasions, they have special memories imprinted on each piece. Perhaps, when carefully clearing the table, washing and putting away...think back on those memories, hopefully with another memory-holder, or holder-in-waiting. No activity attached to 'those' wonderful memories, need be rushed or dismissed as a dreaded chore. : )
Perfect! I will do so and tuck in an envelope. "To be opened before using". Now I can't wait to do all this but she lives 6.5 hours away and will see her in April. In the meantime I could also put little treasures aside for her such as a wedding picture of my parents, love letters and an antique watch. We need to share these moments and things. It gives me enough time to write something in a book about them, give her the book and she can continue as time goes on to add to the memories. Like a time capsule!! The more I write to you Roz the more I'm inspired!! Hugs
I love this is going to happen just wish I could have had a chance with my Mother"s china
What a great idea! All of you had such wonderful suggestions I am excited to have the opportunity to hand down my mother's dishes to my daughter. Thanks to all of you, I will be doing that with many items.
I have 22K gold plates and printed picture dishes and cups, looks very old, looks like people with those tall white wigs on the ladies. Would love 2 keep them but I need the money. Please help.
