Desperately need help with my CD art project!

Hey guys! I wanted to use these CDs I found to decorate an old picture frame. I’m having some trouble though... I’m finding that when I cut through the CDs they start to peel and shed. Is there a way to avoid this?
And looking for any other tips you can offer to make this project look great!

Is there a secret to successfully cutting CDs?
To break CDs, boil a pot of water and then place in a mixing bowl. Place the CD in for about 5 minutes so that it softens. Then you can use scissors to cut any shape you like or simply break it up with your hands.
How about painting the underside of the CD to give a stained glass effect?
But don't crochet it to tight, spread it out evenly.
