I feel the same way. I have several dollar stores in the area and I always start there first. What did we do before dollar stores? 🤔

Before there were dollar stores, there were what was called dime stores!

Hard to imagine…..but I actually worked in one . That was during 2nd World War and the older teens had gone to seattle to work in the ship yards, so they were hiring 14 year olds. Lots of stuff for a dime, a quarter, and on up!

Yes, I remember, my mom and grandma called them "the five and dime" - Newberry's, Kress and Grant's - and they had lunch counters. I wish they were still around! Guess Target and Walmart kind of replaced them in a matter of fashion. One of my favorite things to do when travelling is seeking out old fashioned hardware stores, I have come across a few and always fun!

In Fredericksburg, Texas, there is a store downtown called Dooley's, which is a true "five and time". It certainly takes you down memory lane when you walk through. Neat little town and store.
