Are you doing the reno yourself?
Maybe smaller items like painting, etc. We greatly lack skills/experience. We need everything done...fresh painting, new doors and trim, an entire new kitchen, you name it we need to do it. It is an overwhelming task and just thinking about the budget makes us put it off further. We need a starting place.
Assess your style. Start one room at a time. What you like and don't like. Peruse the Hometallk site for ideas, what members have done, and how they did it. Look at online sites for ideas. Diy is easy. Start small. Work your way up as your skills get better. Paint, window treatments, storage, organizing would be a start.
Consider selling. Why not go look at new condos your size and see thier prices and more important the things that you like in their fresh, new decor.
Take it room by room. New paint color, accent pillows and decorative pillows, etc. Also budget wise don't forget about those wonderful thrift stores out there that are sometimes a great source of accent pieces, bedding, dishes, and more.
I'd work room by room and do whatever painting you need to do. From there, change out any carpeting or flooring in those rooms.
From there, depending on your budget, pick what other items you want to work on. Paint kitchen cabinets? Change out lighting fixtures? Have new counters installed?
Make a wish list and then start pricing out what these items will cost you. If you want to DIY, there are many, many how-to videos on You Tube you can watch to learn how to do minor renovations and updates.
Good luck!!
Yes paint works wonders. Especially on cabinets...changes the whole look of the room. You Tube is awesome - and there are a lot of things that are quite easy to do. I replumbed my bathroom sink when I bought a new vanity....found it on there. :D
Easy peasy. One room at a time. Declutter and wash everything from walls to windows to bedding. Rearrange furniture to enlarge your rooms visually. Hang sheer white panels 4" from ceiling to the floor. Rent a rug shampooer and clean all carpeting. Clean out closets and organize shoes, etc. Animal scents need to be eliminated and any 'smoke' odors must go. I use the blue PineSol to clean leaving a fresh scent. Barkeepers soft scrub will do wonders in the kitchen and in shower stalls. You don't need a lot of money to spruce up your condo, just some thorough cleaning and rearranging. Best of luck.
