If it's tongue and groove, you absolutely have to start at the wall (tongue facing middle of the room).
Insert a shim against the wall to leave room for the wood to expand. Once the floor is laid, remove the shim and hide the gap with quarter-round.

Alyssa has got it. Always start at the longest wall. Ceramic tile in the center so any cut tile will be against the walls.
Be sure you start at a rightangle - to be sure flooring will not run out to one side!
You should use the wall as a starting point if you are laying a wood floor.
