Wild Ginger = Weed
a weed is only a plant growing where it is not appreciated
Have you ever let it bloom? It MIGHT be a member of the Costus family known as wild ginger; look it up and see if thats what you have; most of these are grown for their lovely flowers and foliage
I bought this at Pike's Nursery, a highly respected business in the Atlanta area, so I don't think it's a weed. It was sold as a small tree or shrub but I misplaced the ID card that came with it. The photo below is what I found online for wild ginger. No resemblance to what I have.
you asked the question and then posted a different plant ,So now I am not sure exactly where you are going with this. It is not ginger.
Janet, the 2nd picture Louise posted is what she found as wild ginger. it looks nothing like the plant she wants identified. hope this clarfies.
Hi Louise, it is difficult to tell from your picture but the leaves are variegated and the new growth is after it blossomed it could be Christi Lyn azalea
Here is a picture of the azalea.

My master gardener friend has ID'd my plant as a llicium floridanum 'Pink Frost'. https://garden.org/plants/view/613021/Florida-Anise-Illicium-floridanum-Pink-Frost/
It does resemble the Azalea, but could it possibly be Bee Balm? It's a great bush for hummingbirds and butterflies.
Looks like a Daphne to me, does it bloom and smell wonderful? It is a slow growing shrub with varigated leaves and a lovely spring flower.
