  • First congrats on your new home, it looks lovely. Second, If I were you, I would scour decorating magazines and HGTV as well as here on Hometalk. I think you should start with a small room, like a spare bedroom, test your skills and ideas there and work up your courage. Ask for input from friends and family whose taste you admire. Select some inspiration pieces, like artwork or throw pillow and use those colors to help you point in a direction. Go to furniture stores, look at how they stage their displays. Look at some of the local adult school classes or local stores who offer classes. My Pottery Barn has classes for various themes.

I love the openness. I'd say start with good pieces of furniture. Find a sofa you love and maybe build from there. I'm eclectic and don't have just one style. I get what I like and what brings me joy. If it doesn't make you happy it's not worth it. Use fabrics to give your home the feel you're looking for. I have good luck at Home Goods. They have lots of different kinds of things to give you ideas. And there are loads of websites to look at as well.

I suggest spending money on consulting a designer/decorator. This will be the best investment you make for your new home (congratulations!). It's more than just color and style, it's about where to place the furniture, what types of furniture will make the best use of space and function. I'm sure you can find many online or in your area.

If u love farmhouse go to magnolia.com I think it is. Joanna Gaines has her own paint colors and u can go buy some really cool
stuf from her shop to accent w. Paint some tables then lightly sand them bare in some spots. Put ship lap on an accent wall and paint. Wall planters r really in for farm house style. Take some old books and cut your initials out w them or words like love. My husband did it for me. They r very cute! Go to flea markets for inspiration pieces that will be cheaper to paint! Good luck!

Paint is cheap and packs a big punch.Grey looks great in a bedroom, light blue or light gold too. Pick out your couch and a recliner or comfortable chair and go from there.Homegoods is a great source for window treatment, frames and chairs and terrific prices.Take your time with tables and lamps.
