Hostas do very well too. Crepe Myrtles, some pine varieties, Japanese maple for trees. Will be visiting your area this summer, great state and people are so friendly and helpful, you are lucky to live there. ☺
A good source is your country extension office. They deal with agriculture/garden issues, etc.
