The big thing now is painting older wood furniture. Chalk paint is the "in" thing now. Comes in alot of colors. So, if you like the piece of furniture, just pick a color!
I would keep it . As the saying goes , "they don't make 'em like they used to . " If you don't own a sander, borrow or rent one . You can sand the dents out of it after you strip with Citristrip . Then either stain to bring out the beauty of the wood or paint.
If you like the table then keep it. Decide which way you want to go paint or stain.
