You and me both!! The best thing you can do is close off all of their entry points. Sometimes this is easier said than done. In older homes, there can be so many entry points that even trained professionals will miss some. But in addition, a mix of powdered sugar and baking soda is a great offense for when you start spotting them- its poison to them and they bring it back to their queen. Good luck!
Use Bayer home insect spray. Buy in lowes or Home Depot or ace hardware, mix 50/50 with water in sprayer..spray inside and outside once a month.. Make sure you seal up cracks on house foundation with silicone not caulking.. Silicone expands.. Seal around windows , door frames, under door sill etc.. My neighbors use other commercial products and pay monthly fees to companies.. NOt me.. It dog about $8.00 a gallon, but mix it 50/50 with water, spray every 2-4 weeks. In summer especially.. Haven't seen any ants in years..
