Check with your local senior center or advertise on Craigslist that you need help. You would be amazed at how people come out to help.
If you can't find someone through your senior center, try your church, maybe they can recommend someone. Otherwise look in your local yellow pages, if you still get one, or search on your computer for "install railings on outdoor stairs" and the name of your town. Or, if everything in the area of the steps is concrete, you might call a wrought-iron railing company.
I know it's expensive, if you have to pay someone, but a 60-year old friend just broke her hip falling on the stairs, and has a long recovery ahead of her. We all have to be careful
Good luck.
In our area we have local service clubs that will do this kind of thing. You could look in the phone book for them & they might be willing to help. We also have a faith-based organization, LOVE Inc., and you could check if there's one in your area. They work with local churches and people volunteer through them.
Thank you for your comment. We will check out your information.
Is there a technical high school near you? Or even a technical college? our elderly neighbors across the street called the local technical high school here looking for a cheap way to fix their wooden porch that was warping and to put in a wheelchair ramp because the husband was coming home from the Rehab facility after a surgery.
Our neighbors weren't picky and are on a fixed income as they are retired so the wife called the school and asked about getting it fixed on a small budget but turns out they sent the whole class of kids out to their house that were studying carpentry and engineering. the neighbors had a new porch in two days flat! The husband hadn't even made it home yet! The kids drew up the plans from the engineering dept and the carpentry kids had it built the very next day! It was impressive. Seriously it was so heartwarming to see a busload of 15 kids pouring out of it lol then Working until it was finished. I believe the lumber was even donated thru one of the churches even.
All done Free Of charge. They do it here as its considered community service and it's a requirement for high school graduation here in Connecticut (10 hours). I hope you can find something like this for your needs! I know this sounds crazy but a while back the newspaper ran an article about a family in of a wheelchair ramp built for a little girl with medical issues. The next day they posted a follow up that a local motorcycle club.. yes... think hells angels lol... volunteered to purchase the materials and build it! Maybe reach out to your local media? There are a lot of people who just love to help with things like this... good luck with everything!
I would help you if I lived near you ! But I'm too many states away so you should definitely look into what the others here have suggested! Please don't fall anymore, I lost my Great Aunt Neeny like that on the steps of her back porch, someone should have fixed her railing! Please get that fixed ASAP, be careful until then and have a blessed day!
