What could I put down in front of fireplace to make it pop?

Right now the mantel & wood along the sides of fireplace is all white, then there is this jet black bumpy material like slate (not slate). It looks so cheesy. What would you suggest I use to make it a wow factor?

The least expensive solution would be paint. You could go with one color or try to fauxfinish it and make it look like bumpy rock. Keep your colors neutral but contrasting from your fireplace color. Hearth might be soap stone. You might consider re-painting the white paint job to blend it with the hearth. Being a decorative painter, I would probably do a faux marble job on it, or you could try one of the gray granite spray paints.
