    1) Use a repellent - essential oil based, like cedar oil, not a chemical if you can avoid it

    2) Ledum Palustre - a homeopathic remedy intended to repel ticks

Treat your whole yard and all pets, even if they never leave your yard. Remember that dogs and cats need difference kinds of repellent. If you have a rabbit, guinea pig, gerbil or any other unusual pet, try to get a vet's or other pet owner's advice about what to use, even if these pets never leave the house. Ticks are dangerous to humans sometimes, as can be lice, fleas, flies, and mosquitoes. Make sure you and your clothes are treated, organically or chemically, every time you go outside, and if you have pets in the house. With West Nile, Rocky Mountain fever, and other diseases lurking, we are trying to be careful and sensible. And don't forget the sunblock. It's worth the extra few seconds a day.

I use listerine in a garden hose end sprayer, my chow likes to lay under the bushes around the house and I give the bushes a good rinse down without any harmful insecticides.

I use NaturaLawn of America for this. Heard NBC evening news last week that this summer is predicted to be the worst yet for ticks and Lyme (not Lyme's people) Disease. I know 12 people who have had Lyme Disease, and one young woman's life has been shattered from all the side effects she has had to deal with. Thanks goodness she is improving, and her family helps her out. I never go on grass anymore - too scared.

Do you have White Pines in your yard. Our old vet told us that ticks love white pines. My husband cut them down and now our dog doesn't get a tick but just once in a while.
