Depending on what you want to brighten up. Luv your walls! Possibly put bright colored surefit cover over sofa with multi colored pillows with some of same color

in cover. Then carry sofa cover color with accessories. (You can always spray paint some thrift store finds to match).

Yes to more color. Maybe a yellow? Personally, I think that would be a really fun color, but color is so personal, that you have to pick what you like. Also, the space looks like it can use some greenery! Snake plant is a very, very low maintenance plant (and adds oxygen to the air at night). But also, I love maidenhair fern - it's a quaint, precious plant that adds texture and softness.

I have mine in a mossy pot, with a large glass cloche over it. Very botanical,

and I love the " feeling " it adds to the room.

YOu have really great bones in this room - it justs needs those personal touches

that soften it up and make it pop. Old books (the covers can add color), etc.

You might also want to scootch the rug so it goes a bit under the futon - it grounds the room more to have at least the front feet of your furniture on the rug.

It looks like it is all just tossed together with what ever. Now there are just a few things on the wall that do not make any statement. The walls are great, but they need to have posters, pictures etc. hung. Check out the net for how to arrange your walls for the greatest impact. Turn the shelving that is against the wall and make it a coffee table. Yes, cover the sofa with throws and pillows. I would suggest shades of coral. Where the shelving was against the wall put in a double seated ottoman for extra seating.

You and I have the same problem. We collect things of a similar size. I love what you have so far. I think your room needs one large statement piece. Maybe a large mirror surrounded by driftwood painted in one of your accent colors? It would tie the room together and reflect the light.

Change the futon cover to white and use coral throw pillows. Also paint the shelving unit and the oar with coral. Put a big mirror on the wall to reflect light. Yellow accents would also look good with the blue you already have going on. You just really need to add a third color (and possibly a 4th!). Or use a bright colored futon cover instead and use accent colors accordingly. I'm including a link to a youtube tutorial on complimentary colors.

How about making a lime green slip cover for the divan to start with? Then replace all the little decorative items with a tall lamp and get an old canvas from a thrift store and painting over in shades of blue and white.
