there are plenty of websites where people list fsbo. Just google. BUT remember to check the housing regulations wherever you buy. Even if it is deep in the country, you may find that tiny houses are not allowed.
Check your local paper. There usually is a section that shows merchandise for sale, homes and land for sale. Also, you can go on-line and check out some of the real estate places.
Craigslist is one possibility. I will state that I have never known a rent-to-own house or land situation to work out, so you need to be very careful or you could end up losing your shirt and/or your family's shirt.
Finding land is easy, there are lots of websites, Zillow, Realtor.com and many others. Once you know the area, concentrate your searches and find out local codes from city, county, etc. I would also enlist the help of a local realtor to aid in the search as well as with the legal details. For any land transaction, I would also consult a Real Estate attorney to protect your interests. Also talk to your insurance agent too.
Solar is a great way to go, and it can be done, you just need enough land for the panels, and batteries to store the power, so you will also need a "shed" or some sort of control room and then connect to your various tiny houses.
You can also do what the Amish do and build at least a temporary outhouse. I would also consider building a "common house" where the entire family can gather, especially during the winter or inclement weather.
Remember Google is your friend, learn how to use it effectively and to your advantage. I will go look up some helpful links for you.

Thank You so much to all of you. In our state, or at least county if we have a minimum of 10 achers we won't need permits. Color us happy. Lol. We have enlisted realtors, but when they hear what our intentions are that's the last I heard from them. I have been looking in the newspaper, but as we are in a small town there isn't much in it for sale or rent. Going to the larger city papers the land it seems we can't find close to our area. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not making excuses, I'm just saying that this is what we are dealing with. Oh how the pressure is on MEEEE. LOL. I DO THANK EACH AND EVERYONE WHO HAS AND WILL OFFER ANY IDEAS. Gigi.
