Marble fireplace mantel . . .how to repurpose?

We replaced our old marble mantel & now I would like to repurpose it. The piece measures 8" x 1 1/4" x 6'. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I had started a white wash a year ago but sanded off most of it when my family hated it.
youvcan select a tile you like or cover with chicken wire and plaster over the chicken wire for an updated look.
UnfortunatelY I think paint is a good answer. You could reface the brick with some tiles, maybe marble, it would help to know what your fireplace looks like
I tiled right over the brick on my fire place.
Grey is a good neutral and modern color. I would suggest painting the brick dark grey and the rest of the walls in the room a lighter shade of grey. I know you like your wood mantle, but people are painting their wood mantles dark grey also. Maybe even darker than the brick.
