I would like to hang fabric to make this outdoor space more inviting.

Try springloaded shower rods and sheer curtains. If you don't like them, then there are no holes to fill or damage done to your posts.
Pinterest has lots of ideas from materials to use, ways to hang, etc:

Least expensive yet durable fabric is Harbor Freight's canvas painter's drop cloth. Covers a lot of space for not much money. Ecru colored.
I did curtains on my gazebo a few years ago and found the price of true outside curtains too much, so I found some nice tab top curtains at Walmart in a solid off white. I take them down in the winter and wash, and they've made it through 5 seasons. I used inexpensive cafe rods to hang them. You could also get a vintage chandelier and it would be awesome.
Easy! Tension rods and either sheets, shower curtains or fabric of your choice. I would sew channel at the bottom to insert a pvc pipe to keep them from flopping and billowing in the breeze.
Use safety cable. I get mine at lowes. Then order shower curtain clips. I ordered them on Amazon.com. Then use painter's cloth as curtains. You can fold the top edge of the canvas over when you clip the shower curtain hooks on so you get the right length.
This site has great prices on outdoor curtains. I can't see what your house looks like from the outside, but based on your pictures, I think the tan and white cabana stripe would look awesome. Or if you've got black shutters, the black & white could look great. http://www.kirklands.com/catalog/search_sp.cmd?form_state=searchForm&defaultSearchKey=What+can+we+help+you+find%3F&q=outdoor+curtains&x=0&y=0
Actually, the curtains are navy and white but that would still work as the dark color's close enough. I would consider carrying the color from your room to your porch or vice versa for cohesiveness and an indoor-outdoor feel.
Our house is brick interspersed with dark brown bricks... the new addition is gray and we have white shudders.
This our house from the drive. I am very excited from comments I've received. I'd live to hear more. Thank you everyone
I used copper pipe with fabric shower curtains.....easy and looked great at my sons house on his balcony! Weighted the bottom with fishing weights so it wouldnt blow!
my go to is shade cloth. it comes in white, green, black. it's meant to cover hoop style green houses. you can get remnants, i had made curtains for the 2nd story screened in deck. added a bit of privacy from the neighbor and her deck.
Thank you everyone for all ideas. I now have lots of ideas t to choose from.
We hang pcp pipping around the inside of our porch. I purchased ikea shears, a pair cost about $5 .00. My cost for 6 prs is about $ 30.00. I usually get two years out of them, left up all year. I soak in oxy clean between seasons. What i like is that they are shear and when not tied and they are romantic closed. I also liked the idea above with the drop clothes.
Thank you for posting a picture of your home, helps in trying to get a look that compliments your home. I would use something more towards sheer & billowing! I'd use antique curtain rods & rings also. Please post after pictures, you have a lovely home!
