what does she like? Her interests? Her input is invaluable. Let her choose, if you like it you can always shut the door.
I think your best bet will be to ask your daughter for her input- maybe get her to just make a folder of pictures of bedrooms she likes? Look for any common threads, and then that would give you a launching point. This could be a fun mother-daughter project. Be sure she has an idea of your budget first- keeps the ideas in reach! 😃
ask HER..bet you She knows 😀
One idea would be to elevate her bed if it is a twin and use the space underneath as a desk for studying and computer if she has it, with perhaps a chest of drawers or shelving for her "stuff". This leaves the rest of her room for entertaining her friends, watching movies, whatever she is into. For the decorating make sure it is in colors and style that she likes. She is old enough to have her own ideas of the space she would love. When I was her age the only input I had was the main color and the color of the accent pillows my mom insisted I have.
I would have her pick out some new bedding first. If she picks a patterned bedspread or comforter, use the colors in that to decorate the rest of the room. Use one of the colors to paint the room. If you choose a lighter, more neutral color, you might not need to paint again if she wants new bedding later on! Use 2 or 3 other colors as accents, but don't go overboard! Pillows on the bed, a cute lamp for her bedside table, candles, art for the walls, even desk accessories in those colors will the everything together! Good luck!
Sit down with her and have her pick her favorite colors and patterns, decide if you need new furniture. set up a budget with her to make it a teachable activity.
Yes! Ask her! My daughter is now 19, & I was quite surprised at her choices the last time we did a bedroom makeover. Her likes had definitely changed, big time! LOL
Whenever we moved as a kid, my Mom would always take me shopping to redo my room. It was a great experience. I got to pick out paint, wallpaper, bedding even furniture like a desk, pictures etc.
have her make an idea board, her favorite colors design ideas, get some home magazines,( or just look through them in the store) with her ,try some DIY projects, together, like painting her old furniture. You don't have to do it all at once . Find the concept ( boho, shabby chic,tropical,beachy...) careful With color, don't go too dark. Pintrest of corse has great ideas!
Decide on a budget. "Shop" for ideas on Pinterest and make a wish list. Help her prioritize and decide what fits the budget. This will be a great way to teach her to budget and make decisions, as well as the fun of having the room transform into an expression of her! (BTW, allow her to make as many choices as you can stand and let her live with her choices. She will learn the most that way.)
16 year old teens , are always changing their minds in what they want. You will have to control it.... and you can have fun with it, you just need to know her personality. Sporty or frilly. just have fun.
