Try a beaded curtain or shower curtain or Blind
If you are good at woodwork, have the router cutters and equipment, you can always make your own panel door.
Consider a vinyl folding door for your closet.
Would a long skinny mirror work on the exterior of your dodgy door? You could use this until the right door is provided by the universe.
Or or a swanky beaded curtain Instead of a door?
Maybe a lovely fabric panel with a rod and rings at the top for easy sliding?
my sister in law put a mirrored door there which works great and is useful
Frame a shutter to fit the space. Solid shutter or louvered.
Yes, a curtain... there are tension rods you can use, & ive used the bathroom shower curtain hooks that have the little roller balls on top so that it slides easily to open/ close.
I would take the door off, paint the closet a contrasting color to the rest of the bathroom, buy some new towels, and arrange a few beautiful dishes on the shelves, perhaps with some favorite beads on it or a lovely tray with soaps on it or other unusual things you love. Put extra supplies on the bottom shelf. I have sen this and it looks great.
I put shelves in this area and stuff in baskets all other unsightly or dangerous to children was put under sink cabinet with child safety locks
If you're handy or know someone who is, what about making a 20 inch wide sliding barn door that would go over the opening and slide towards the inside of the bathroom when opened? No problem with doors colliding with each other and it would look pretty cool.
I've got the same narrow opening closet door, also behind the door into the room. I built my own wooden "country style" screen door to fit. (Hubbies Kreg jig was handy in doing this). Only instead of screening, I stapled burlap to the door. (Allows ventilation and keeps stored items out of sight). Instead of a door knob and latch I used magnetic catches and a leather handle from a damaged suitcase to pull it open. We used two 30'" piano hinges for greater stability . Some gingerbread trim gave the door some character and interest. (Also hid a fault in the weave of the burlap). I like it. It's unique to this house. We've built custom door for other rooms in this house. Upstairs rooms are under-the-eaves, so the closet doors needed an angled top to follow the slope of the ceiling.
Both beaded curtains and burlap curtains in a bathroom are very impractical ideas, as they both would be very difficult to keep clean and sanitized.
They would be magnets for lint, hair, talc, product spray, towel fuzz, and germs.
