After it has finished blooming
Hello Jackieinthepulpit, I use the old farmer's method: From Spring thru Fall prune in months that have the letter "R" in their name. For example, you can prune in April but not in May. May does not contain the letter R. I have used this method for many years and it has always worked well for me. Hope this helps you. Good luck.
Early spring or fall after all the leaves fall off.
Usually spring or fall but if gets to bushy trim flowers will come back
Wait till winter or early spring while the shrub is dormant to prune. If you want to just trim it back some, wait till it's thru blooming. Don't cut back too late in the year. This will cause it to put on new growth, which can get killed by frost.
trim after the flowers drop
We do ours late September, early October. We do mild clean up of branches and then prune the tops straight across hedge style. They come back fuller each year.
