Doing kitchen renovations are out of the question, because just the thought of anymore construction could do me in, but the dust accumulation is really bad up there. ... See more
I absolutely love both the cabinets and pot rack! Don't touch either one! But if you must.....you can spray paint the rack with rustolium paint.....they have metallic paint which would look great if u want to get away from the black....maybe just paint a few stencils here and there on those beautiful cabinets.....good luck. It's already gorgeous
I'm with Cindy, everything in your kitchen goes together. Love the painted pieces and the pot rack (I'm a pot rack lover). Your kitchen is very country from the knotty pine to the ceiling beams.. don't let all the current obsession with a 'clean modern' look , make you think that your kitchen isn't just as lovely, just another style : ) Frankly unless you want to get rid of the knotty pine and put in all new cabinets (a very costly endeavor) , I don't really see much that needs changing : )
A simple change of hardware might give you the update/change you are looking for
You have an absolutely beautiful kitchen ! I'm with Holly maybe hardware if you just have to have a change.
definitely Hardware updates kitchens and there's so many options out there right now. and I would paint that pot-rack in a minute if you wanted you could do it bright color like a red or dark Barn red or the gray color to match your pantry on the side these will make big impact!!
Cabinets are beautiful. Why not find some great new hardware and mount a few different ones to see if that perks it up. You might consider selectively painting a couple of your cabinets to make it look as though some of the cabinets are furniture pieces. Or leave the cabinets alone and spend your money or a great granite slab for your island. I see you have ebony on your surfaces so something more eye catching than butcher block for the island may do the trick.
I love that kitchen! A white wash on the pine might be nice. It'll still allow the wood to show through, but update it a little. I'm wishing I had that kitchen!!
You have a beautiful kitchen and I wouldn't change anything ... but I understand how you feel when you see kitchens in magazines that are painted a muted color, or whatever. Remember trends are simply that ... a trend ... and trends come and go. For the past few years, gray has been "the trendy color" but it will runs its course then it will be another color. How many remember the years Hunter Green was popular? lol.
Please never paint that pot rack! I had one in a former kitchen and SO wish I could use it here but it just doesn't suit my kitchen. I love your island and maybe, when the budget allows, you could replace the top with a muted color of granite or quartz - avoid anything too orange colored. You could change your hardware on the doors and drawers. Bring a few styles home to see which suits the best. Some might suggest you repeat the color of your pot rack and install black iron hinges, knobs and pulls but I'm concerned it might look too "busy". Go on Houzz.com and type in "wood kitchen cupboards" (or something similar) and look at their many ideas.
If you really wanted to reduce some of the wood look, you might consider painting the (upper) corner cupboard to the left of your stove and the large cupboard (both upper and lower) to the left of the painted hutch. That will break up some of the wood.
Are your baseboard mouldings and door frames (throughout the house) all the same wood OR are some painted the typical white? If the adjacent rooms have white door frames and baseboards, then I would definitely paint the kitchen door frames and baseboards white as well. As I said before, there is nothing wrong with your kitchen; you have decorated it nicely and not cluttered it up with a lot of knick knacks.
I just thought of one other thing and that is: do you like the look of "skirts" used in place of two lower cupboard doors? I'm looking at your sink and can easily picture the two lower doors replaced with a "sink skirt" (in a muted color like your island - even burlap would be nice) and mounted on an iron rod. A popular Canadian blogger has done the same in her kitchen and it looks great. A skirt would also break up the wood. Go on Pinterest and you will see tons of ideas.
White wash the cabinets with transparent white or off-white. Finish coat them with a semi or matte finish. It will make your kitchen seem larger and will make cleanup easier than wood. If the pot rack is old, you might consider taking it down and give it a fresh coat of Rustoleum in a complimentary shade to go with the new cabinet color or paint it a contrasting color to go with other colorful accessories.
Replace the knobs and pulls with stainless steel. I'm not a fan of natural wood cabinets so I would be anxious to paint or have them professionally painted. Just my preference, though. Painting them is a huge job.
I agree that a big facelift would be too much for that beautiful kitchen. Replacing the knobs and pulls is a fabulous idea but I'd go with a color that matches your beams or appliances. If you can't find anything like that, simply restain what you've got with an ebony.
Replacement doors for your cabinets online $15/sq ft. Buy a couple and try it out with paint. Expriment with colors, and keep the old doors intact until you know for sure what you like. Photoshop comes in handy too.
Paint the walls and ceiling first, find a pleasing color that pops , then if it still does not satisfy you, research the cabinets.
i love it the way it is. If I changed anything I'd go for a lighter floor. But your style is classic. Anyone can have painted cabinets. This look will be back in style for sure.
Is beautiful how it is!
If you don't mind going a bit darker, I would paint those cabinet center panels a satin black and paint the knobs black, and the glass front cabinet door black, and maybe the little drawers black. I think this would tie in with your granite counters nice
I love it the way it is!!!
You kitchen is fabulous and I would chalk paint all the light knoty pine cabinet in white , add hardware for that updated look and use from Anne Sloan paint. That lovely green cabinet just darken the top and shelfs to make that piece pop, only use that as displaying instead of stacking the plates and use cook books from thrift store as height props for a pitcher etc. Over the cupboards with crown molding put display items up there. The pot rack omit that it blocks the eye moving through the kitchen and add a large floral arraignment. I would paint the walls a tomato red and I'll up load all pictures for your new updated style kitchen. I choose a color chart with paints and a fabric if you wish to change out the window treatmen.
Also notice the beams in the picture, enjoy and I hope I was of some help.
I absolutely love your kitchen just as it is!
Good Luck !!!
It is wonderful the way it is. I would not do anything, just for the sake of change. You love it, leave it be. Get some new colored towels and oven mitts and call it a day!
