You could make your own pavers from concrete and a form, and then make a paver driveway..... https://www.google.com/search?q=paver+driveway+ideas&client=opera&hs=FJw&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi33K6UjK3VAhXHxVQKHf8vAnwQ7AkIWA&biw=1366&bih=629
You can even add pigment to the concrete to give a color like brick for example. You can add pea gravel to the concrete to give it more texture.

If you don't want weeds coming up between your pavers, spray the area with Weed b Gone, lay landscape fabric over the sand before you put your pavers down.
Asphalt is definitely less expensive than concrete and even less expensive is crusher run gravel. The more you drive on it, the harder it gets. It also makes a good base for doing concrete or asphalt later on.
This is not a direct answer to your question as our solution was not the most cost effective solution. We have no garage and a small driveway, which my husband dug my hand when we bought this house. We had gravel which eventually worked its way into the ground, I did not want asphalt as don't like the way it looks, I wanted a stone laid paver driveway. I used to have successful yard
sales and took the proceeds from one to have this work done. It serves a necessary purpose, it is attractive and it adds (in not too expensive a way) a touch of "elegance" to what is just a regular house. In other words it was worth it to me to spend what usually would be an excessive amount.
