How do I make outside blinds to cover our lanai screens?

We purchased plastic roll up blinds for our lanai last year. Having the afternoon sun in Florida causes us to lower them @ 4PM to keep it cooler. After only a year, they have broken edges and look horrible. Thought about using material shower curtains but we have 8 screens @ 8-12 feet wide. Any ideas?

Swap the plastic out for bamboo which will last much longer in the sun.
That's a tough one, I've been looking for a cost effective solution for my front porch as well. I love the pull down screens , but wow the pricing is high. .. Hopefully someone here can help the both of us : )
Hello Fran; The Florida sun can be exceedingly brutal.
Why don't you purchase inexpensive sheets and hang those. The sun will stay filtered out, and it will be much cooler!!!
Also, inexpensive sheer curtains will help.
I hope that this helps you!!!! Take Care!
Get fabric from the fabric store that comes in wide widths and make your own, that way you can create the look you want without spending a fortune.

How about drop cloths? Make curtains, put up tension rods, use curtain clips.
i would buy canvas drop cloths and make some kind of pull back curtain. Should last awhile and could embellish down side with color or braiding or ribbon etc.
Hello Fran; You are so Welcome.
Please check Wal-Mart.
I recently purchase some roll up blinds for my Parents porch.
They are using the roll ups, as well as light sheers.
Both makes such a huge difference!!!
I hope that this helps you! Take Care!!
