Do you have any electrical outlets available? I would use string lights! Either plug in or battery operated. There are SO many pretty styles available.
The wooden structure does not look like it belongs. Perhaps in-person it blends. My preference, if you are going to put a cover over it, would be to put low voltage LED recessed down lights in that. The ones I speak of are made for RVs and campers but I used them in my bath and adjoining closet and they are killer. I used a 12 volt LED power supply tucked behind an access panel.
Can you put solar LED lights on outside wall or on the 4x4 posts?
You need white/clear solar or plug in lights on both posts so you can use the grill at night and see when the food is done. As for recessed lights, that merely means they are out of obvious sight. You can staple or tack a strip of the LED lights on the lower back edge of each piece of wood in the pergola. And I think you need to paint the pergola black, white or gray. Then your grill area will be more attractive and useful. Best wishes 😇
Attach a hanging basket hook to the 4x4 posts put up hanging baskets with fake flowers and use battery or solar lights within.
You could use some solar lights..... http://www.homedepot.com/p/Deck-Impressions-Solar-Powered-Brown-Downcast-Deck-Light-2-Pack-43039-com/206855142?cm_mmc=Shopping%7cTHD%7cG%7c0%7cG-BASE-PLA-D27L-ExteriorLighting%7c&gclid=CjwKCAjwmK3OBRBKEiwAOL6t1Kei56a3SzmeriLtipH2MF5J-83ApxjdfAw-x1yntQODhMxfiOtdbxoC0FoQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CJWi48nnxtYCFYmLfgod2C4MlQ

I recently saw some logs cut, turned on their end and solar lights put in the tops of them.
Several of them together, different heights.
Was cute and outdoorsy.
