There is no best way, just different ingredients. I typically will read a recipe and see if appeals to me, then make one batch as a test, then adjust to personal taste. We like lots of garlic, so I always add more than the recipes call for. Some do not care for dill, so I will make a batch omitting it and maybe add in a few sprigs of fresh thyme instead. Here are a few to try . . .

Apply a fertilizer for ground cover in early spring
Hello Ronwoo50, The only thing I can say is fertilize your ivy about 3 or 4 times a year to encourage faster growth, but ivy grows pretty fast on its own, and make sure you direct the path of its growth and keep it trimmed up so it will grow where you WANT it to be, and NOT where you don't (it is a real pain to be pulling at those spreading vines and digging up those underground roots and rhizomes when it starts popping up in your lawn, flower bed, and vegetable garden trying to choke out everything in its path).
Hi Ronwoo50 :) This article tells you EVERYTHING you will need to know about growing English Ivy -- although it says to fertilize TWICE a year ... my daughter has never fertilized hers and it's growing like a weed up the sides of her house and all over the side yard, which is exactly what she has always dreamed of having (an ivy covered house) but I don't know why. It's pretty but will destroy the structure of the house eventually. Anyway, here is the article I have on what type of fertilizer to use:
