from a church cook book from Bennett IA. Cold mixture 4 cups vinegar. 4 cups sugar. 1/2 cup salt. 1/4 tsp. Turmeric. 1/4 tsp. Mustard. 1/4 tsp celery seed. Enough medium cucumbers for a 1 gallon container. Onions to your liking. Slice cucumber and onions into gallon jar. Make cold mixture. Mix well and pour over cukes and onions. Put in fridge. Ready to eat in several days....better if left longer. Will keep indefinitely. E.H. Cook book contributeR.

FIRST, make sure your jars and lids are immaculately clean (boil them and then allow them to cool):

Sweet or dilly, there ya go ;) Thnaks for using HOMETALK for answers :)
Here's a really quick way to make dill pickles. Save the pickle juice and jar of a brand of dill pickles that you love. Fresh cucumbers, rinse, then cut in half or in spears and put in jar with juice. Ideally, they should soak in the juice for a week to get the full flavor. Great way to use up cucumbers that may go bad in your fridge.
for pickles....generally a white vinegar.
white vinager......the apple cider stuff makes them taste a bit weird.
This recipe makes absolutely incredible sweet pickle slices. Drain half of the liquid from one large store bought jar of dill pickle slices, add 5-6 cinnamon sticks, 2 T. whole cloves, 2 cups sugar. Put the lid on and turn the jar upside down. Wait 1/2 hour and turn the jar over again. Repeat Put the jar right side up in the fridge and let chill overnight. Wake up to some tasty sliced sweet/dill pickles. If sugar is not completely dissolved, you can gently shake the jar. Everyone raves about these. So easy to make.
