Some mild winters, we have seen the new grass under a fine layer of snow! Amazing! Straw does add a layer for warm bedding and we have a tighter lawn when using straw but not necessary as grass is tough. We also seed in the early Spring when the ground is warm. Happy Lawn!

Most of the lawn care companies like tru green will over seed the lawns in the fall. I have never seen them cover the lawns with anything like straw.
Fall is the best time for sure. That way the roots have a chance to get established before the hot weather comes along.
