How can this island look better

I have this cheap rolling island I picked up, I want it to look more- stylish/rustic. I would like some sort of new top (quartz/granite etc) and maybe paint it? Cover it with something? any ideas?

That a little hard to answer without seeing your kitchen. Rustic I like the look of blue/grey of old barn boards. You can do this with three colors of paints one on top of the other with each color show through. Like boards used in beach décor. Then for the top several coats of poly over the paint.

  • Also check the wheels. This looks like a nice island, but you may need to upgrade the wheels if you change the top to a stone product. I would just explore different paint techniques - the hardware looks good too.

what ever the color you have your kitchen in or where ever you have this island ? I think it would look very nice, for you to paint the accented parts. The recessed areas on the doors. The 2 end towel bars, and the 2 drawers. And if you really want to jars it up, and the top wit a very fine sand paper. And stain it a darker color, as long as your not going to put food on it to be cut or prepared .

I agree. Compared with half the junk out there at high retail prices, this island looks pretty good.

    Granite with all natural wood

When you find out the price of a custom piece of solid surface (quartz, granite) to fit the base, I'm sure that this island will not look half as bad as it does right now. Besides, there is usually a minimum sq ft size on custom counter top orders, which your island probably is not big enough for.

Keep the top. Butcher block IS rustic

Paint it an accent color that you already have or would like to see .

After the paint is fully dry sand the heck out of it . The edges around the knobs . Make it look beat up and old

Take some stain and wipe down lightly if you think it needs more aging
