Weeds in the Garden

What is the fastest/easiest way to get rid of a ton of weeds growing in my garden area. Weeds are pretty tall and established, due to heavy rainfall. I'm not looking forward to pulling them and have resigned myself to waiting until winter when they all die and get rid of them then. However, they are an eyesore and would like to take advantage of the cooler weather and get rid of them now. Thanks in advance.

Cut them. Cut them NOW before they flower and seed! Then you won't have to contend with even more weeds seeding and growing next season. A layer (or two!) of 6 mil black plastic over the area will discourage new growth, and that, covered with mulch or wood chips will make it look great for a longer time. You can cut a hole in the plastic to plant annuals in the spring, if you want!!

I would use Weed b Gone if your plants are just annuals and finished for the season, otherwise a hoe is your best bet.

People swear by using boiling water to kill them. Here’s a link that gives you more options, too. All cheap and pretty much home made.

I use the roundup that has a choice between spray and foam. I cut the ones that won't pull up easily close to the ground and put the foam on the cut edge. I agree with don't let any of them flower and seed. If the garden area is wet the weeds are easier to pull. There are weeds out there that do come up easily when they aren't too big. I am surprised at the weeds I have pulled that are three and four feet high and the roots come really easy. I have to pull the weeds between the back yard fence and the house behind us that has a privacy fence for the pool. I can't reach them until they are tall and they come up real easy.

Weed killer. or flatten them and cover with black plastic until they are dead.

cut them down close to the ground. Cover with cardboard and then with wood chips. this will kill almost all of the weeds and just add more woodchips as needed next year. I’ve try them all - heavy duty plastic covered with stones - eventually the plastic breaks down and you have a mess, newspaper blows around and difficult to cover. Cardboard is free and Great!
