they make smaller fairy lights battery operated
Hi Joy. You can purchase battery operating fairy lights. They are tiny lights on wire. They are very small and the wore is thin too. You can even get ones with a timer one them so they turn on and off by themselves. Another option is LED tape lighting. The only issue with this is it has to be hard wired in. Good Luck.
Is there an electrical outlet for a plug behind the shelving unit? (Can't tell from the photo.) If so, you could mount a picture light, or musician stand light above the frame, so that it shines down over onto the scarf.
It wouldn't be stained glass, but it would provide soft light at the end of the hallway, and could also act as a night light.
This kind can be cut to size and is fairly inexpensive. https://www.amazon.com/WenTop-Waterproof-Flexible-Lighting-Bathroom/dp/B01GJ3O0J8/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1507305103&sr=8-8&keywords=led+light+strip
